SHELL

Bribed some buddies with chicken and waffles into helping with the car today. Got quite a bit done; dropped the front and rear subframes, and disassembled the entire front end. Most of the bearings and brake parts were actually in great shape, however all new parts will be replacing them anyways. With a cold and wet day outside it was great having the large insulated shop to work in, I almost feel spoiled at this point. Never worked in anything beyond a one car garage and a car port, one could really get use to this...

FUTO FAB

Picked up some Futo Fab front lower arms and tension rods. Got them off eBay for less than retail so I couldn't be happier. Pretty quality parts. I'll probably end up ordering the Techno Toy Tuning arms for the rear soon.

 I thought the little heim joint dust boots were pretty nifty. Also the end of the tension rod is machine to fit into the slot in the car.

HEADERS

So took me a while but I finnaly found a header I wanted for the Datsun. Two days later I found an even better one. A week later here I am with two rare headers offered in the US.

 I rented some workshop space and got the Z pushed over there. It's time to get some work done.

...and yes I'll be using silly filters for now on, bite me.

UPDATE ON THINGS

So after a summer from hell here in Texas not much progress on the Z was made. However it gave me time to do more reading, as it never hurts to know more. I also been picking up some part here and there that I need for it.

I threw setting a deadline for it out the window. I just feel that you can't rush this kind of project. Even if it takes years it'll be done right.

REAR FLARES

Had a little time to work on the Z today so I got the rear flares mounted where they need to be. Now I can take them off cut the quarters and weld the seam.

 

THE PERFECT WHEEL SIZE

Everyone has their own opinion of what they feel is the proper "fitment" when in comes to wheels and tire sizes. I ,like everyone else, have my own unique taste when it comes to what I think looks right and on what platforms it looks right on.

I have been discussing with other Z owners as to what they feel is the best size wheels and tires on a zg flared z. Also digging up old information of Z cars built in Japan through out the decades. All in preparation to having a set of SSR's widened to my specs.

Running into this picture of KnightoftheRound's car on HybridZ along with his specs have been a real milestone in figuring sizes out.
Wheels look so perfect at those sizes.

FRONT FLARES

The drought here in San Antonio finally came to an end as we started getting some much need rain lately. The cooler temperatures feel amazing and allowed me to get some things done on the Z. 

Picked up the hardware I needed and got the front flares mounted. The button head socket screws look factory installed and worked really well. Still need to pick up some rubber welting to use between the flare and fender, this will hopefully fill the minor gaps.

Took me a while to get the placement right. I think I looked through dozens of pictures for reference, but I'm pretty happy with how they sit. Once I had them both mounted however they didn't seem even. After scratching my head for a while I realize that the left flare was longer than the right near the front. So they are positioned right, but I'll have to trim some off the left flare to even out things.

SCOOT

Worked out a trade for the '55 Chevy truck and ended up with this thing. I would be lying if I said it wasn't actually pretty fun to ride around in. 

1960 Vespa VBB 150cc. Close to 100 MPG, a good size storage compartment and room for my lady on the back. I could use the money though so if anyone has any interest in it feel free to let me know.

NEED TO STAY OF CRAIGSLIST

I just need to stay off Craigslist cause I keep wanting to buy things that I may or may not need. I need to make sure my extra money is going to finish the Z but it's so hard when deals like this keep popping up for cheap.

This 1978 Toyota truck would make a sweet swap-meet runner/motorcycle hauler. Paint is clean and original, 20r engine with a 4 speed tranny are bullet proof. I'm going to stop talking about it now before I try and buy it.

GETTING THE BALL ROLLING AGAIN

Lots going on in the last few months. San Antonio has been in the worst drought since the early 90's and yet with no rain in site. So we've been having a miserable summer. I work on the car outside so needless to say progress has been slow. Thankfully the weather has been finally getting better and we got some things done on the car. Had some friends over and cleaned up some surface rust that had developed over the last month. I also got a chance to drill and cut the front fenders for the flares.

SWAP MEET

I'm a sucker for a good swap meet. Went to a motorcycle one today at the famous Pig Stand near downtown San Antonio. Pretty small but I still managed to buy a few things for a bike I don't even own yet.

The Swap meet is the first Sunday of the month.
